BEATRIZ CANTINHO

TÚLIO ROSA

Holds a PhD in Dance and Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh. She is an independent choreographer and researcher in the laboratories of CHAIA – University of Évora and CIAC – University of Algarve. Her recent work has been focused on a critical analysis of movement within its aesthetic/political dimension, considered as an expanded choreographic practice, which supports her research and artistic creation.

From her choreographic work, she highlights: Ad Extra, Da Nova Arte de Fazer Ruínas, Eye Height, Peça Veloz Corpo Volátil, Singularity, Scch…an essay on silence. Her movement composition work is often developed in collaboration with other artists in the fields of Theater, Visual Arts, Cinema, Digital Arts such as Herwig Turk, Valério Romão, Ricardo Jacinto, Vangelis Lymporidis, Shiori Usui, C. Spencer Yeah, Mariza Dima.

Her artistic and research work has been presented both in Portugal, in spaces such as CCB, Fundação Serralves, MNAC, Acarte, Lisbon Architecture Triennale, and abroad: Galeria Guillotine (FR), SARC, DanceBase, Blue Elephant Theatre (UK), Matadero (SP). Transmedial Festival, Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and TESLA (DE), among others. Universities: Surrey, Cambridge, Brunel, Stanford, Berkeley, Chelsea College of Art. 

NUNO TORRES

Performer, choreographer and independent researcher. Master in Scenic Practices and Visual Culture by the Reina Sofia Museum / Castilla-La Mancha University. (Madrid, 2016). Degree in Dance from Faculdade Angel Vianna (Rio de Janeiro, 2011). He is currently a participant in the a.pass {advanced performance and scenography studies} postgraduate and research program in Brussels.

In his career, he collaborated on projects by artists such as, Luís Garay and Diego Bianchi (AR), Ana Borralho and João Galante (PT), Giselda Fernandes/Os Dois Cia. Of Dance (BR). Since 2014 he has collaborated with Marcelo Evelin/Demolition Inc. in the show Suddenly everything is black with people, presented in more than 17 countries, and in the Barricada project research. Between 2015 and 2019, he was connected to the research programs developed by ARTEA in Madrid, such as the MPECV (Museo Reina Sofía), and the Expanded Teatralities – Cuerpo y Democracia (Matadero Madrid) project. Together with Beatriz Cantinho, he created Ad Extra, which premiered at the DT Espacio Escénico in Madrid, in February 2020, and was recently presented at Mala Voadora, in Porto.

His latest works Ad Extra, Here and Elsewhere and Experiments for a non submissive body, were presented in Mexico (Museo del Chopo), Argentina (CCMartienzo, Festival Mover), Uruguay (Teatro Solís), Portugal (Rua das Gaivotas6, Mala Voadora) Spain (Teatro Pradillo, Swinton Gallery, La Poderosa, Matadero Madrid), Germany (Hosek Contemporary), Armenia (NPAK Yerevan), among others.

Develops continuous research in the fields of improvised and experimental music, exploring a wide range of sound material around the saxophone alto using extended techniques. He actively participates in several radio projects, with a strong experimental and community nature.

Member of the Research Group in Contemporary Music at the Center for Studies in Sociology and Musical Aesthetics. Master in Musical Arts from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Co-founding member of OSSO Associação Cultural and STRESS.FM. He has collaborated in several projects crossing the areas of dance and visual arts (PARQUE, Les Voisins, Eye Height), as well as several radio initiatives (stress.fm, c.e.m, CPAI and Festival RadiaLx). He was a member of the artistic direction of the projects Ecos/Echoes (2013/14), Matriz (2015/16) and Temporary Territories (2016/17) funded by DGArtes.

He has participated in several ensembles in the field of improvised, experimental and reductionism music, where he collaborated, among others, with Ernesto Rodrigues, Ricardo Jacinto, Sei Miguel, Rafael Toral, Axel Dörner, Alexander Frangenheim, Guilherme Rodrigues, Rodrigo Pinheiro, Hernani Faustino, Gustavo Costa, Carlos Santos, C Spencer Yeh and Shiori Usui, performing in different venues such as Culturgest-Porto, Lisbon and Paris, Palais Tokyo (Paris), Serralves Foundation (Porto), Sowieso (Berlin), DanceBase (Edinburgh), Festival Temps d' Images (Lisbon), BigBang Festival–CCB (Lisbon), ZDB (Lisbon), DOME (Moscow), B_Movie-(Hamburg).

From several collaborations results a discography that counts with more than two dozen titles, edited mainly in Creative Sources Records.

JOSÉ CAPELA

Architect, he obtained his doctorate with the dissertation, Operate conceptually in art. Operate conceptually in architecture. He is a professor at the University of Minho, where he teaches in architecture and theater courses, and is a researcher at Lab2PT. He curated, with Cláudia Taborda, the international conference Architecture [in] ]out[ Policy for the Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2010. He is the author of the chapter A bottle of Coca-Cola and two greenhouses: internal politics in the arts and architecture of the book Estética and Politics between the Arts (Edições 70) and has published in architecture and performing arts magazines.

 

He founded and is co-director, with Jorge Andrade, of mala voadora theatre company, being responsible for the scenography of the shows. He published the scenography catalog Modos de Não fazer nada, was president of APCEN between 2016 and 2018, and is the author of the installation Windows – Portuguese representation of the Prague Quadrennial 2019 – and editor, with José Carlos Duarte, of the respective catalog W : JC + JCD. In recent years, he has also collaborated with Companhia Nacional de Bailado, Teatro Nacional São Carlos, and conceived a scenography-installation for the foyer of Teatro do Bairro Alto. He was nominated for the Scenography Authors Award in 2012 and 2017, and received the award in 2016 for Pirandello da mala voadora.
